Torn ACL ends season for Ricky Rubio
A word no athlete ever wants to hear during an injury: ACL. Never have those three letters meant something positive to an athlete – and this is no exception.
Minnesota Timberwolves guard Ricky Rubio suffered a torn ACL Friday night and is out for the season, a team source told ESPN.com’s TrueHoop.
Rubio, who had 15 points, 10 assists and four rebounds in Friday’s 105-102 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, had to be helped off the floor in the final 16 seconds after his left knee buckled as he tried to help out on defense against Kobe Bryant.
He immediately clutched his knee and had to be carried off the court by teammates Martell Webster and Derrick Williams.
One athlete with a lot of heart, but one injury hard to overcome. We’ll wish him luck in recovery. Here’s the response:
Recovery time for ACL injuries is 6 to 9 months which means not only is NBA season gone for Ricky, but Summer Olympics for Spain, too.

Last night, Ricky Rubio bumped knees with Kobe. Cost him a foul, the game, a torn ACL, the rest of the season and the Olympics #thereisnogod

Ricky Rubio being out for the season means about 15% of the league's top assist highlights just disappeared
