Lil Bub Speaks: I’m More Than Just a Famous Cat
You know Lil Bub as a magical space perma-kitten that delights the Internet. But have you met Lil Bub, the philanthropist?
The Internet-famous cat has raised more than $60,000 for animal charities nationwide, spreading awareness, broadcasting stories about special needs animals and hosting meet-and-greets at animal shelters to collect donations of cash, food and litter for kitties in need. Her charity Facebook page, Lil Bub’s Bubuddies has more than 5,600 likes.
While Lil Bub is a natural spokescat for adoption, spaying and neutering, her adoptive dude, Mike Bridavsky, believes her good work transcends animal issues.
“She just makes people feel better about themselves,” he said. “She shows that being different is better, that it’s cool to be weird. She has disabilities, but she overcomes them so gracefully. It’s really inspiring to people. Her general vibe is positive and encourages positivity.”
We managed to score an exclusive interview with Lil Bub, which Mike kindly dictated. (It’s really hard to type with paws.) In it, she reveals her secrets to living the Bub life, talks about being a real-life superhero and sends a message to all her haters.
Mashable: Even though you’re a magical space cat and not from this planet, why are you so dedicated to helping animals on Earth?
Lil Bub: Well when I first crash landed here, I thought it was just an unfortunate accident. But then I realized it happened for a reason. There are so many animals on your planet that need homes and need help to stay awesome. And as it turns out, people on your planet listen to me. So I use that power to help my new pals on Earth.
What’s your advice for people (and pets) who want to make the world a better place?
Bub: It’s pretty simple really. Do cool stuff, do nice things, be grateful for the things that make you different, help your pals feel the same way and don’t bother yourself with the opinions of others. Also eat lots of yogurt and/or fishes.
Some people don’t understand your magic and say mean things on the Internet. How do you respond to the haters?
Bub: I love them.
If you could send one message to all of human/pet-kind, what would it be?
Bub: GOOD JOB EVERYBODY.
What’s it like to be only two years old and already pretty much a superhero?
Bub: You gotta remember that I’ve actually been a superhero for millions of years…only two years on Earth. But I’m totally into it. Best job in the universe.
